Coming Soon.... Chip Cards to Enhance the Safety Of Your Credit and Debit Transactions!

A chip card-also called a smart card or EMV card- is a debit or credit card that contains a microprocessor that enhances the security of cards during point of sale transactions.

Legacy Federal Credit Union will soon be issuing high-tech chip cards to all of our cardholders as your cards expire. These new cards contain an embedded computer chip and are already in use in much of the world. In the near future they will be the standard in the United States.

Information programmed into your chip card will be personalized for your account making every in-person transaction unique. This will add an additional safeguard against fraud.

There is no need to request your chip card. We will be rolling them out soon and yours will be replaced when your current card expires.

This card comes with additional protections, so it is important to activate it as soon as you can. When the card arrives, just follow the activation instructions and begin to use your new card. Chip card are easy to use and they add a new layer of security. Once the new card is activated, be sure to destroy your old card. To re-cap, information programmed into the chip is personalized for your account and each transaction at a chip-enabled terminal generates a unique code, adding an extra safeguard against unauthorized use and counterfeiting.

Chip Cards to Enhance the Safety of Your Credit and Debit Transactions How do chip cards work? If a merchant is already using a chip-enabled terminal, paying is as easy as:
  1. Insert your card, face up and chip end into the terminal.
  2. Leave your card in the terminal during the entire transaction.
  3. Follow the instructions and either sign your name or enter your PIN as needed. Be sure to remove your card and take your receipt when the transaction is complete.
