Auto Solution

If a merchant is not using a chip-enabled terminal yet, you will still be able to “swipe” your card to make your purchase, just as you do today. Since not all merchants have chip enabled terminals yet, chip cards will still have a magnetic stripe on the back so that cardholders can swipe their new card through the older terminals to complete transactions.

At an ATM the process is essentially the same as at the merchant. Insert your card into the terminal and follow instructions on the screen. Depending on the brand of the ATM, you might be prompted to re-insert your card. Leave the card in the ATM until the transaction is complete and the card is released. Remove your card and any cash you may have withdrawn. A PIN is needed for ATM transactions.

Nothing has changed for transactions made online or by telephone. You will make payments just as you do today.

Chip cards can be used virtually anywhere VISA is accepted in the US and around the world. Chip cards will work in both chip enabled and swipe terminals. If a chip card holder tries to swipe a chip card in a chip enabled terminal, they will be prompted to insert the card to complete the transaction.

We hope that you will enjoy the enhancements and greater safety these new cards will afford. Please call the office if you have any questions or concerns with your new credit or debit cards.
